CHAMPIONS OF THE ART'S LABEL SHOWCASE
THE NUCLEAR CHILDREN SINGLE RELEASE CONCERT -
In his recent email, lead singer Jason Matthew made no bones about the radio-friendliness of his band's new single. He wears the pop label proudly, and so does "Paint It Red," a catchy installment from a band getting tighter and more entertaining as it progresses further from its roots in local indie outfit Asthmo.

The Rolling Stones painted things black; the Children paint them red. And their brushes are a big, bold acoustic guitar, even bigger electric counterparts, a subtle thumping syth, Matthew's sexed-up snarl and sing-along choruses. Everything is ready for arenas -- or at least the venues the band plays regularly around town. I'd suggest going to one of them soon.

May 13th will be our Single Release party for Paint it Red. It will also be a showcase for our record label Champions of the Arts. Ghengis Green, The Lost Revival, Marseille Marseille, and Marvin the Robot are all performing

w/ THE LOST REVIVAL -
Kevin Collins, singer and guitarist of the Lost Revival, said the band only looks like a lost cause onstage. Don't be alarmed; the players know how to handle themselves. "Now that our band has several multi-instrumentalist members, our stage setup can be very complicated," Collins said. "Things may look frantic, but worry not, audience member -- we know what we are doing."

Collins on his band's sound and vision:
Q What does your music sound like?
A One of our percussionists, John Thorne, recently described why he was drawn to our music, and the phrase he used that we found most apt was "bastardized Americana." For older folks with no conception of current music, we will say, "It sounds like folk-rock with weird noises and synthesizers."

w/ GHENGIS GREEN-
Ghengis Green been playing together nearly two years now, when they first embarked on the perpetual search of finding their true sound. Their sound is unique, scattered remnants of the whole music spectrum. The leftover thoughts that the day let you keep. maybe the absence of thought inspires songs at times. A melody and rhythm used to fill the void.

MY BEST FRIENDS PARTY
PRESENTS:
COSMO BAKER (of The Rub . NYC)
There are some people who are always one step ahead of the crowd, whose fingers seem to be locked on the pulse. Cosmo Baker is one of those people. As a DJ, he's been a key player in some of the most celebrated moments in music and nightlife history of Philadelphia. Call it the Midas touch, but trace something back to it's roots and you'll probably see Cosmo's name on the flyer. From holding one of the original resident spots alongside King Britt at the now-legendary Back to Basics party to spinning at house parties alongside a then-unsigned band called The Roots, Cosmo seems to have a knack for getting involved with the next big thing.

Cosmo took over the Philadelphia scene when he was still just a teenager, playing at many of the city's top nightclubs before he was even legal . Although he was young, he possessed the musical savoir-fare of the ages. While growing up, Cosmo made himself at home with his family's record collection, which included everything from folk and blues to jazz and pop . However the style of music that had the biggest impact on him was hip-hop. When he started DJing, he took his love of hip hop and combined it with his knowledge of the other forms of music - developing a style of mixing music of different genres seamlessly to create a "bigger picture." This was the style that years down the road would influence many of Philly's most acclaimed DJs. As a DJ, Cosmo's musical knowledge crosses over to his approach to spinning. He sees each DJ set as a movement. much like a piece of classical music, that takes the listener on a journey from point A to point B. He was also able to incorporate the music training he had as a child, which includes violin, guitar, bass, piano, drums and music reading into the way that he would construct his sets.

Already established in Philly as one of the top DJs by the mid nineties, Cosmo moved to New York to take a job working at Eightball Records. It was here that he became a fixture on the scene and ended up spinning regularly in the downtown circuit. Although he loved his time in New York, he eventually returned back to Philly to finish college. Upon his return to Philly, he started a party named The Remedy. This party became an instant success, and further solidified Cosmo's reign at the top of the Philly DJ community. After a near fatal car accident, The Remedy was kept afloat by Cosmo's friend Rich Medina, and after Cosmo's return the two of them continued to preside over what is now called by many, "The dopest continuous weekly hip-hop jam in the United States" (Bobbito - 360hiphop.com, 2001.)

The turn of the century saw many changes for Cosmo. He started traveling to Las Vegas on a weekly basis to spin at Baby's Nightclub, inside The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. He also started to devote more time to production and recording. Since 1997, he released several records, such as The Militant Mindstate, Munk Wit Da Funk, One Way and more. He also worked on his own solo material, which was by definition hip-hop, but showed as much influence of Neil Young as it did by EPMD. Included in his catalog of solo material was his distinctive mixed CDs - mixes that stayed true to his vision of a "movement in music," much like his DJ sets. During the first several years of the 21st century, Cosmo continued to play on the road, and at home he still presided over his parties like The Remedy, and Candyland, which he DJed with his friend ?uestlove of The Roots. Eventually, he moved back to Brooklyn where he teamed up with fellow music lovers DJ Ayres and DJ Eleven for The Rub, which is now widely considered New York's best DJ/dance party.

And that's the thing with Cosmo. He always lets his passion for music take him to new places, inspiring his DJ contemporaries and the people that come out to listen to him. Whether he's spinning for an intimate group of 50 or an audience of thousands, he always knows what song will engage and, of course, move the crowd. Whatever it is that he's involved with, judging by his track record, it could easily be the next big thing.

w/ DJ SHAPESHIFTER aka MISTER SHIFTER-
SHAPESHIFTER started off DJ'ing at raves and local weekly EDM events in the mid-nineties, and then in 2002 formed the drum & bass production duo Random Movement with friend Mike Richards. Together they produced a number of singles highlighted by the 2005 hit "Stars in the Dark" released on Bassbin Recordings. Other releases were featured on labels such as Innerground, Orgone (Breakbeat Science), and Timeless Recordings. Mister Shifter left the group in 2006 to focus on other projects. His current residency is at Bristol Bar in downtown Columbus where I play a variety of genres including electro, drum & bass, indie rock, and downtempo.

MOTIONS PROD. PRESENTS..
BOOK MOBILE -
Although always as loud as god, it was easy to convince yourself the music of Bookmobile was far more passive than aggressive. This myth exploded in a hail of flaming toads in the spring of 1989, when the band’s original trio line-up burst like a ripe sac of pus. In the intervening years there have been various versions of Bookmobile several of which made use of our drummer, Antonio; but none of them included prodigal bassist, John Fitzgerald. Until now. Until Beyond.

Bookmobile's sound was actually a roiling sea of emotion and rage and a sense of aggro that had been forged into a bizarre metal-punk-pop-whatsis by obsessive listening to Sabbath, the Birthday Party, The Cure, Tom Foolery and the Mistakes and Neil Young. Do you remember that Little Rascals film where Alfala eats a hot dog and a hamburger immediately before he gets into a boxing match? An animated hot dog and hamburger get into a boxing match in his stomach. Well, Bookmobile's influences were like that – except it was more like a Texas Cage Match where Neil and Nick yanked on each other’s hair while Kyle and Robert and Ozzy threw buckets of boiling urine into everybody’s eyes. How could any band be expected to contain such carnage without cracking?

w/ WHITE DEVIL (Chicago)
The boys of White Devil (ex Sleeper, Passenger) have been haunting Chicagoland for years with their disturbingly beautiful and epic pieces that force imagery on the brains of listeners with no relent. Chaotic 3 minute pieces of hammering drums and guitar and bass onslaught side by side 12 minute ambiance is not atypical of the trio, obsessed with creating specific moods, characters, and places by way of sound. The band picked up in 2006 where Passenger, the 4 piece post-rock instrumental concept band with drummer Samuel Vincent and David D'Antonio on a second guitar, left off (myspace.com/theowlsarerestless), but leads Passenger's adventurous and sometimes euphoric melodies down a much darker alley that has seen the face of death and pain.

w/ VANITY THEFT -
We're just trying to break the stereotypes of lame girl bands and play something that doesn't sound like everything else out there. Why bother being a band if you're not distinguishable, right? Chances are if you've never seen us live, you'll find out that we're an all girl band at a show, think we're gonna suck, then hear us and hopefully change your mind. It comes with the territory but oh well, it's great turning skeptics into fans. We write what we love and we love to make our audience move uncontrollably. We love all kinds of music and so all kinds of influences show up in our sound, which would be easy to classify as indie but that would be very oversimplified so just listen for yourself and come to a show.

w/ BIG NASTY -
Forming late 2006, Big Nasty is the masterful sounds of Rob "REZ" Minor on Bass and William Ong aka "Ongfacekillah" on Drums. After hearing Big Nasty perform, the tendency to smack yourself in the face and say "WTF JUST HAPPENED HERE?" arises.

w/ LONI MARIE -

w/ THE FLEX CREW-
Flex Crew's sound effects kill the pain of everyday angst like a morphine drip, with a consciousness-altering power. The sextet's power-packed reggae melds the tropical calypso roots of traditional reggae -- marked by that characteristic chord on the upbeat -- with the more militant brand, sometimes referred to as "rockers," that borrows from hip-hop, jazz, funk and rap. The result is a hard hittin' cosmopolitan strain of groove-dominated reggae. Flex Crew's mastermind, drummer/percussionist Troy "Daddy Troy" Jones, has performed with internationally known acts Identity, Steele Pulse, Michael Rose and Earl Zero. He was also the touring drummer Don Carlos of Black Uhuru fame.
